We’re back and off to Liverpool Sound City

After a wee break to, you know, sort out our lives [and what lives!] we’re back in full effect. Yep, we’re off at a gallop to Liverpool Sound City again this year.

Those gorgeous organiser types at LSC have invited us to moderate a panel on our favourite topic: SOCIAL MEDIA for MUSICIANS.

So much has changed over the last twelve months in terms of the tech available to musos.

Is Instagram really the biggest mobile social network EVER? Yep.

Does Pinterest have any relevance at all for musicians? HELL YEAH.

Is effective and efficient use of Twitter still deeply misunderstood? You bet.

Facebook. Where the hecking HECK do we start with Facebook? ‘Likes’ may be reasonably easy to come by but how do you, y’know, actually get your newly timelined page right up in people’s faces?

We’re dead pleased to be hosting a social media panel at this year’s Liverpool Sound City.

Sound City, described as “The UK’s coolest boutique urban festival”, takes place 19-21 May in venues right across Liverpool. Our panel is on Thursday 19 May, Thursday 19th May from 3pm to 4:15pm in Grace One, Hilton Hotel.

Come armed with your social media questions, queries, conundrums and we’ll do our best to shine a little light on what ails you. Whether it’s how to get the best out of twitter, breaking out of the facebook ghetto, making a start blogging or simplifying your life online our merry band of social media mavens are here to help.

As an organisation MOVEMENT is very much in its infancy but has been gestating in the mind of our Kate for a good couple of years. She’s also been talking about it A LOT.

We ask this question: Who is the most under-served member of the wider UK music industry?

We give this answer: You. The semi-professional musician.

We aim to provide – for free or very, very cheap – training, coaching, campaigning, lobbying, advice and networking for and with independent musicians.

Social Media for Musicians

Our debut event was Manchester’s first ever social media surgery especially for independent musicians. There’s a real thirst for social media guidance amongst the city’s music community and we’re here to help quench it.

Last February over 30 musicians and social media mavens met at Common in Manchester’s Northern Quarter to share tips, tricks and know-how on the dizzying array of freely available online tools.

At the next event on Tuesday 19 April, we’ll broaden things out a bit to have a look at crowdsourced funding apps.
